The Senior Application Software Engineer will be a lead technical resource in the planning and development of application level machine vision software. Software application environments may include but not be limited to Windows and Linux environments and will have heavy systems integration components. Planning and Architecting the design of the application will be a main component of the day to day tasks for this position, along with the documentation of those designs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead in the Planning, Architecture and Development of machine vision applications

  • Image Processing
  • Stitching/Registration Combining of adjacent 2D or 3D images
  • Filtering
  • Thresholding
  • Segmentation
  • Edge Detection
  • Color Analysis
  • Blob detection and extraction
  • Neural net
  • Pattern recognition
  • Barcode, Data Matrix
  • Optical character recognition
  • Gauging/Metrology
  • Comparison against target values to determine a "pass or fail" result
  • User Interfaces
  • Pattern recognition of clothing
  • Pattern learning and teaching techniques
  • Recognition algorithms and filtering
  • Diagnostic Tools and Utilities
  • Data Analysis, Storage and Reporting

Development and documentation of application requirements and specifications

Lab and field testing

Aid as technical lead on installations, startup, and commissioning


  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • 6+ years' experience developing in (openCV, C/C++, etc.)
  • FPGA Image processing a plus
  • SQL Experience desired but not required
  • Skills in troubleshooting and debugging
  • Experience in application architecture design and analysis
  • Mining application experience and background preferred but not required
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts and apply them accurately
  • Organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases and determine the appropriate approach at the task or project level
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capable of representing the company as a prime technical contact

Working Conditions

  • Daily Job duties will consist of office, lab, and desk work with occasional field testing required.
  • Candidate may be required to work underground, but on an infrequent bais
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near large moving machinery
  • Customer operations may contain airborne particles and allergens
  • Matrix employees are furnished and required to wear safety gear such as hard hats, steel toe shoes, reflective clothing, earplugs, and safety glasses
  • Occasional travel and ability to work various shifts as required by customer

Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and to stand or sit for extended periods may occasionally be required
